PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress instantaneous load fluctuation caused by a thick recording material going into a transfer portion, and keep good transfer image quality.SOLUTION: A transfer device 2 includes: a transfer roll 3 for transferring an image G on an image carrier 1 to a recording material 10; a drive device 6 for giving driving force to the transfer roll 3; a torque restriction mechanism 7 for restricting an upper limit torque acting on the transfer roll 3; and an inertial body 8 which is provided so as to increase an inertial amount with respect to the transfer roll 3, and which inertially moves the transfer roll 3 in a direction which reduces a speed difference between the image carrier 1 and the transfer roll 3 when the upper limit torque acts on the transfer roller 3 by the torque restriction mechanism 7. The transfer device 2 also includes a transfer belt 5 which is stretched between the transfer roll 3 and a submissively rotatable extension roll 4. In addition, the transfer roll 3 is provided with the drive device 6 and the torque restriction mechanism 7, and one of the extension rolls 4 is provided with the inertial body 8. |
