<p>An apparatus for monitoring the structural health or integrity of a material, comprising a guide rail 900 mounted onto the surface 620 to be tested and a platform 700 comprising at least one sensor 710 which engages with the guide rail 900. The rail may have a leg support 910 and a fixing mount 920, which may be magnetic, to reversibly mount it to the surface. The rail can be flexible, comprising a number of engaging segments (201, Fig 3) with a convex and concave end coaxially mounted along a wire (240, Fig 3). The platform may be reversibly engaged with the guide rail by means of guide rollers 810 and a bias roller 800 and the platform may be equipped with a distance measuring device so that the distance traversed along the rail is determined. The platform may have a propulsion means to propel it along the rail. The device is intended for the ultrasonic inspection of complex geometry welded joints 610.</p> |
