Method and apparatus for disinfecting spaces

A process for disinfection of spaces using a disinfecting liquid droplet spray atomization device with an electric fan that dispenses the atomised disinfecting liquid into the space wherein the fan is operated in a substantially random sequence. The duty cycle (on/off cycle) and/or the speed of the fan is controlled preferably by a pulse-width modulation scheme determined by random number generator software running on a control system. The process creates variable air speed which creates a more dynamic air flow and improved dissipation of the atomised disinfecting liquid in the space. An apparatus comprising 1 an electric fan (107: fig 2), hydrogen peroxide atomiser 104 and control system for modulating the operating of electric fan performs the process. The apparatus may further comprise a venturi injector 106 for dispensing the atomised liquid into a secondary airflow and sensors 2 for monitoring the temperature and humidity of the space. Means 3 for displaying status information and controlling the apparatus may be located outside the space under treatment and may further comprise a hydrogen peroxide detector.
