A rotary wing aircraft yoke (40) is provided including an arcuate medial portion (42). A pair of arms (44a, 44b) extends from the medial portion (42) and each terminates in a distal end (46a, 46b). The yoke (40) is made from multiple plies of glass and graphite fibers of varying orientations. The number of graphite plies increases along each arm from adjacent the medial portion (42) to the distal ends (46a, 46b).
