Relating to the field of burglar alarm devices, a self-testing intrusion alarm system comprises a controller (3), at least two intrusion detectors (1, 2), a timer (5) and an indicator (4); at least one of the intrusion detectors (1, 2) is installed at an entry/exit way while the remaining intrusion detectors (1, 2) are installed at other locations; the intrusion detectors (1, 2) send a trigger signal to the controller (3) when triggered. Upon receiving a trigger signal from an intrusion detector (1, 2) installed at an entry/exit way, the controller (3) starts the timer (5), and upon receiving a trigger signal from an intrusion detector (1, 2) installed at another location, the controller (3) stops the timer (5). When the timer (5) stops, the controller (3) indicates by means of the indicator (4) information from any intrusion detector (1, 2) installed at another location that has not received a trigger signal. Without imposing any additional burden on users, the present intrusion alarm system guarantees that all detectors contained in said system remain in a valid state, thus eliminating the hidden risks attendant upon user unawareness of detector failure.
