A method of adapting operational radio communication parameters of a small cell base station operating to support a small cell which overlaps a coverage area supported by a macro cell base station, and a small cell base station and computer program product operable to perform that method. The method comprises:
receiving an indication of entry into the small cell of macro cell user equipment communicating with the macro cell base station; and if so,
adapting the operational radio communication parameters of the small cell base station to move communications between the small cell base station and small cell user equipment away from a sub-band of a shared region of radio communication spectrum common to the small cell base station and the macro cell base station.
Aspects allow smooth deployment of small cells in macro cell networks, those small cells not necessarily belonging to the same network operator as the macro cells. Thus,
deployment of small cells may not impact on call drop rate within a mobile macro cell network. In other words, the altruistic operation of small cells, according to aspects,
may allow coexistence of a small cell tier with a macro cell tier, the existence of the small cell tier substantially leaving operation of the macro tier unaffected. |
