A washing and disinfecting composition consists of a mixture, preferably in the weight ratios of 2:1 to 9:1, of (1) a salt of an N-alkyl derivative of an amino acid, which serves as the washing component and which contains at least two and preferably three or more basic nitrogen atoms and at least one carboxyl group, the said alkyl group being an aliphatic residue having 10 to 18 carbon atoms, with any desired inorganic or organic acid, and (2) a salt of an N-poly-alkyl derivative of an amino acid, which serves as the disinfecting component and which contains at least two and preferably three or more basic nitrogen atoms and at least one carboxyl group, the said alkyl groups being at least two aliphatic p residues having 6 to 10 carbon atoms, with any desired inorganic or organic acid. Specified washing components are (C16H33NH.CH2CH2NH. CH2CH2NH.CH2COOH)HCl, the corresponding acetate or lactate, or mixture of (C12H25NH. CH2CH2NH. (CH2CH2NH CH2 COOH)HCl with [C16H33NH. CH2CH2NH. CH2CH2N. (CH2COOH)2]HCl. Specified disinfecting components are (C8H17NH. CH2CH2NH. CH2CH2N. (C8H17) CH2COOH) HCl and [(C8H17NH.CH2CH2)2N.
