A system comprises an array of processor core slots. The processors at the slots may be configured to be a particular type of processor. The types may be a central processing unit, a digital signal processor, a graphics processing unit or an application specific processor. The application specific processor may be a direct hardware implementation of an information processing function, which does not need executable program instructions. The system includes hardware logic to assign the slots to applications based on the processing capacity requested by the application. It also includes hardware logic to configure the processors at the slots based on the assigned application. The application may indicate what type of processor it requires. The assignment and configuration may be carried out at regular intervals. |
