Plain journal bearings are made by forming parallel grooves in a flat blank of copper, aluminium, or an alloy of copper or aluminium and filling them with a soft metal or metal alloy, the grooves being of such cross sectional form and disposal that when the blank is formed to cylindrical or semi-cylindrical shape the grooves are contracted to key the soft metal or alloy therein. The mechanical bond may be supplemented by metallurgical adhesion. |
