<p>The invention concerns an acoustic spatial sensory aid having a signal generator for creating a first pulse signal waveform and a receiver array arranged to receive reflections off one or more surface in an environment in which the receiver array is located. A signal processor is adapted to process the reflections received by the receiver array and to generate an echo of the first pulse signal with respect to the one or more surface. An audible signal is output to an end user, including the echo, in a manner that allows the end user to interpret the audible signal as a three-dimensional spatial representation of the one or more surface. The invention may be used as an echolocation aid and/or as a virtual echolocation simulator.</p> |
