摘要 An array substrate for an IPW(In Plane Switching) mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to minimize off current characteristics of a TFT(Thin Film Transistor) caused by photo currents and prevent wavy noise by configuring an active layer of an island shape only on an upper part of a gate electrode. On a substrate(100), a pixel area, a switching area, a gate area and a data area are defined. A TFT(Thin Film Transistor) is disposed on the switching area. The TFT includes a gate electrode(102), an insulating layer, an ohmic contact layer and buffer metal(126) spaced from an active layer, and a source electrode(136) and a drain electrode(138) each contacted to the buffer metal. A data line(146) is disposed in the data area, and includes a data pad(148) in its one end. In the data line, a transparent metal layer and an opaque metal layer are laminated. A gate line(104) is configured in the gate area and includes a gate pad in its one end. Plural pixel electrodes(140) are configured in a vertical bar shape in the pixel area. Plural common electrodes are spaced from the pixel electrodes. A passivation layer covers the surface of the active layer exposed between the source electrode and the drain electrode, and is configured between the pixel electrode and the common electrode.
