PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp capable of initiating discharge at a low voltage even when an emission output is enhanced by setting a gas pressure of an encapsulation gas to be high, and thereby, of suppressing increase in size and weight of a power supply and reducing an external radiation noise, and of suppressing complication of a system for controlling voltage and current, and that does not cause complication in a manufacturing step.SOLUTION: A partition is provided in a both-end closed cylindrical grass tube 2 to divide the interior by the partition 3 into two discharge spaces of a first discharge chamber 4 and a second discharge chamber 5 whose capacity is larger than that of the first discharge chamber 4. A pair of external electrodes 6 and 7 are provided so as to extend along a tube axis of the grass tube 2 at positions opposed to each other, of an outer surface of the grass tube 2. Encapsulation gases having individual gas parameters are encapsulated in the first discharge chamber 4 and in the second discharge chamber 5, respectively. |
