PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat occupancy determination apparatus, which is inexpensive and lightweight and capable of determining an adult and a child safety seat with high accuracy.SOLUTION: A seat occupancy determination apparatus 10 includes a seat belt attachment detection device 65, first and second load detection sensors LF, LR, and a control processor 3. The control processor 3 includes: a front-rear sum load value computing portion 35; a front-rear difference load value computing portion 36; a memory portion 33; an adult possibility determination portion 34b; and a child safety seat determination portion 34c. In the child safety seat determination portion 34c, after it is determined to have a possibility that an adult is seated, it is determined that a child safety seat 5 is firmly bound to the vehicle seat 1 when the following conditions are satisfied: a first predetermined amount increase condition that a front-rear difference load value (fLR-fLF) in the range from a time of engagement L to a first time point D1 exceeds a front-rear difference load value (fLR-fLF) at or before the first time point D1 by a first predetermined amount P1 or more; and a second predetermined amount decrease condition that the front-rear difference load value (fLR-fLF), increasing by the first predetermined amount P1 or more, decreases by a second predetermined amount P2 or more in the range from the time of engagement L to a second time point D2 at which a second predetermined time T2 has passed from the time of engagement L. |
