<p>Composition (I), comprises alkenylsuccinic anhydride as the sizing agent, and a emulsifier system of anionic emulsifiers and nonionic components, where the anionic emulsifiers are alkali metal salts of aliphatic carboxylic acids or aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, and the nonionic components are polyethylene glycols. Independent claims are included for: (1) preparing (I) comprising, obtaining the anionic emulsifiers in situ, by adding an alkali metal hydroxide to the alkenylsuccinic anhydride at an elevated temperature of 100-140[deg] C; and (2) preparing a sizing emulsion comprising (I), comprising emulsifying (I) with an aqueous phase optionally containing starch under low shearing forces.</p> |
