The method involves dissociating waste collection operation from waste transport operation. The collection is carried out with a collection vehicle (A) whose maximum speed is low, where the vehicle supports a detachable empty container (1) for simultaneously depositing and filling the container at a station located in the periphery of a collection zone. The contents of the containers are collected by a traditional dump lorry or a traditional crane lorry. The contents are transported towards a treatment installation at a speed higher than the maximum speed of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a collection vehicle comprising a frame.
