Homogeneous solution comprises a retardation acid, brine, and a compound to neutralize the solution, where the solution has a neutral pH. Independent claims are included for: (1) producing the solution comprising diluting retardation acid in brine and neutralizing the acidity of the solution by adding the compound; and (2) homogeneous alteration of carbonate rock samples comprising sweeping the sample by the solution, and then activating the solution when the solution is placed in a porous network with the sample and then sweeping the sample by brine.
