The method involves emitting a request of a single identifier of each of safety lighting blocks (201-203, 211, 212, 221, 222) on a communication network (110) by a management system (300). Each block is responded simultaneously by emitting a bit of the identifier to a destination of the management system. The bit emitted on the network is analyzed with respect to a bit present on the network by an analysis unit. The block is provided in a stand by state until a request is sent from the system when analysis of the bit leads to a difference between the emitted bit and the bit on the network. An independent claim is also included for a safety lighting block.
