<p>[Problem] The purpose is to provide a thickener having an excellent thickening property particularly in the temperature region higher than room temperature. Another purpose is to provide a composition (emulsion or the like) having excellent storage stability particularly in the temperature region higher than room temperature by adding the thickener. [Solution] A thickener containing a polyoxyalkylene-modified vinyl alcohol polymer, wherein the polyoxyalkylene-modified vinyl alcohol polymer has a specific polyoxyalkylene group constructed from a polyoxypropylene block and a (poly)oxyethylene block in a side chain, the viscosity average degree of polymerization (P) is from 200 to 5000, the degree of saponification is from 40 mol% to 99.99 mol%, and the polyoxyalkylene group modification rate (S) is from 0.05 mol% to 10 mol%.</p> |
