摘要 [Problem] To provide a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries, which has uniform particle diameters and high packing density and is capable of increasing the capacity and the coulombic efficiency of a battery. [Solution] When a nickel composite hydroxide that is a precursor of a positive electrode active material is produced by a crystallization reaction by supplying at least a neutralizing agent, a complexing agent and an aqueous solution containing a nickel salt into a reaction container, while stirring those materials, a nickel composite hydroxide slurry is obtained, while controlling the volume average particle diameter of secondary particles of the nickel composite hydroxide produced in the reaction container to be 0.2-0.6 relative to the volume average particle diameter of secondary particles of the nickel composite hydroxide that is obtained as the final product. After that, the crystallization reaction is continued until the volume average particle diameter of secondary particles of the nickel composite hydroxide reaches 8.0-50.0 mum, while maintaining the volume of the slurry constant and continuously removing only the liquid component of the slurry.
