METHOD AND DEVICE FOR COMPRESSION OF VERTEX DATA IN THREE-DIMENSIONAL IMAGE DATA

Disclosed is a device for compression of vertex data in three-dimensional image data, comprising: a codebook design module which is used to group the discrepancy vectors of the vertex data in three-dimensional image data of codebook design, to generate a corresponding compressed sub-codebook consisting of a designated number of code words for each group of discrepancy vectors and to send each group of compressed sub-codebooks to a code word search module; the code word search module which is used to receive the compressed sub-codebook sent by the codebook design module, and to successively select best-matching code words for the discrepancy vectors of the vertex data in the codebook design three-dimensional image data to be compressed and to take the code word index values of the best-matching code words and the index values of the compressed sub-codebooks where the best-matching code words are located as the compression result of the vertex data. Also disclosed at the same time is a method for compression of vertex data in three-dimensional image data. Adopting the present invention can save the storage space of code words, improve coding quality, improve the compression ratio of vertex data and improve compression efficiency as well.
