PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate stripe image defects occurring along a conveyance direction of a belt body by cleaning to remove a foreign substance intruding between the belt body and a sheet member.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an intermediate transfer belt 2 which is rotatable as opposing to a photosensitive drum 101; and a primary transfer device 300 which is disposed at the opposite side of the intermediate transfer belt 2 to the photosensitive drum 101, comes into contact with the intermediate transfer belt 2 without rotation while the intermediate transfer belt 2 rotates, and transfers a toner image on the photosensitive drum 101. The primary transfer device 300 includes: a sheet member 301 which is in contact with the intermediate transfer belt 2 and has conductivity; a support member 302 which presses the sheet member 301 toward the intermediate transfer belt 2; and a cam 303 which brings a part of the sheet member 301 into contact with or parting from the intermediate transfer belt 2 while the support member 302 presses the sheet member 301 toward the intermediate transfer belt 2. |
