PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate which can reduce the incidence of a read error, and a method for manufacturing the glass substrate.SOLUTION: A glass substrate having Ts/Tg>0.8 (formula 1) and &Dgr;RMS<0.1 Mpa (formula 2) is used to suppress deformation of the glass substrate and the occurrence of minute cracks. After a stress diffusion heat treatment step (S40), a precision polishing step (S50) is performed, so that a shape changed due to stress relaxation can be adjusted neatly again in the precision polishing step (S50), and if the glass substrate is used for a magnetic disc, better flatness can be obtained. |
