The rectangular cosmetic mirror has a light guide plate (8a), whose outer edge (9) projects over an outer edge of the mirror surface. The light emitting diodes (7) are inserted in an inner edge (11) of the light guide plate. Another light guide plate (8b) is arranged on the rear side of the mirror surface. An outer edge of the latter light guide plate is arranged parallel to the former outer edge on a mirror side opposite to the former light guide plate. The inner edges of the two light guide plates are arranged parallel to the outer edges in the central region of the cosmetic mirror.
