The embodiments of the present invention provide a device and method for controlling discontinuous reception (DRX). By allowing UE to acquire DRX controlling information, the embodiments of the present invention enable the UE to control the activation of an on-duration timer based on the said DRX controlling information instead of the periodical self-activation based on the DRX period. The embodiments of the present invention can avoid the problem of the power consumption increase of the UE due to periodically activating the on-duration timer, thereby save the power consumption, and further effectively improve the power saving performance of the UE.
