The purpose is to prevent degraded performance and packet losses associated with depletion of the management area for flow entries relating to packet processing rules in a functionally separated type network, such as an open flow network. Specifically, a switch performs processing of received packets, in accordance with flow entries defining actions and rules for uniformly controlling packets as flows. A controller establishes flow entries in a flow table of the switch. At this time, the switch notifies the controller of availability in the flow table. The controller performs path computations taking into account availability in the flow table, improving usage of the flow table by the switch. |
