The rod has a pipe housing comprising a cylindrical extruded section, and a ceramic plate-shaped heating element (2) arranged in the pipe housing. The heating element comprises a narrow side, which faces an end of the pipe housing. The pipe housing is pressed between two ends in a region of the heating element. The extruded section comprises a circular cross-section, and multiple channels (3-5) extend adjacent to each other in a longitudinal direction of the extruded section. One of the channels forms a heating chamber, which is provided with the heating element. The heating element is designed as a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) heating element.
