The present invention relates to a method for producing highly purified metalloid by means of a carbothermal reduction in a reactor, wherein at least one metalloid compound and at least one carbon source are initially fed into the reactor, which together form a charge, wherein the charge is loosened by stroke-like mechanical effects during the carbothermal reduction. The invention further relates to a device for performing such a method.
