A clear image is displayed in a wide angle of view by removing the influence of lens distortions included in an ocular optical system by image correction. Table size reduction is achieved without the premise that the distortion occurring in a virtual image plane is rotationally symmetric with respect to the optical axis. Specifically, representative pixels are set discretely on a display surface of a display unit (203), and displacement vectors obtained only at the positions of the representative pixels are retained. Pixel positions other than those of the representative pixels are interpolated by the displacement vector of one or more of the peripheral representative pixels so as to obtain the displacement vectors at all of the pixel positions.
