PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction modifier that is excellent in thermal resistance and has low environmental load, and to provide a friction material that contains the friction modifier and has a performance excellent in fade resistance.SOLUTION: This invention relates to a friction modifier used for a friction material, wherein the friction modifier can be obtained by: thermally curing a mixture formed by mixing cashew oil with polycarbosilane; and pulverizing the resultant mixture. The friction modifier contributes to the improvement of thermal resistance, thereby obtaining the friction material that contains the friction modifier and is excellent in fade resistance. |
