The device has a unit for performing ending of a gear shift instruction in a case, in which a preset gear shift instruction ending condition is met, after a gear shift instruction is outputted. The unit provides the gear shift instruction after a preset time elapses after ending of the gear shift instruction. The unit shortly adjusts the preset time in a case in which, a difference between a current operating mode and a recommended operating mode of a machine (2) i.e. internal combustion engine, and motor generators (MG1, MG2) is large in comparison to a case, in which the difference is small. An independent claim is also included for a gear shift instruction method.
