The overhead door (1) has gate wing (2) actuatable by an electromotor (3). A monitoring unit (7) acquires characteristic actual value of electromotor required for operation of gate wing, and transmits the characteristic actual value to control unit (6). The control unit controls the overhead door to be in secured state, if the characteristic actual value deviates from the characteristic reference value.
