<p>The present invention relates to a soil-metagenome-derived, WES (wax ester synthase) protein coding gene associated with wax ester production or environmental stress resistance; and the use of a transformant wherein the WES gene of the present invention is overexpressed is advantageous in that wax ester can be produced in volume and in that environmental stress resistance is increased.</p>
