PURPOSE: Device and method of a portable terminal having a dual subscriber identity module (SIM) card are provided to improve convenience of a user by providing a user based call standby function and a call conversion function. CONSTITUTION: When a registered SIM card is inserted into a portable terminal, the portable terminal displays a message for configuring a dual SIM active function (402). When the portable terminal receives a configuration command of the dual SIM active function, the portable terminal reads stored subscriber information of the inserted two SIM cards (403).
