A portable temporary sign comprises a deformable sheet material banner and a collapsible frame. The frame includes a pair of spaced apart support elements 13, 14 for the banner. The support elements comprise cooperating elongate half shells 13, 14 which together form a hollow container for storing the sign. The frame is formed with a lower half shell 14 having a socket 19 supporting a vertical pole 15 upon which a socket 21 of an upper half shell 13 is mounted. The sockets 19, 21 fit together when the half shells are formed into the container. The pole is preferably telescopic and may include biasing means to bias the half shells apart to tension the banner.
