Vanadium is removed from vanadium-containing petroleum products by treating with hydrogen in the liquid phase in the presence of a sulphur-resistant hydrogenation catalyst and under conditions of temperature and pressure such that vanadium is deposited on or incorporated with the catalyst. A temperature of 700-850 DEG F. and a pressure of 800-1,000 lb./sq.in. may be used. The preferred catalyst is cobalt molybdate on alumina.
