PURPOSE: A negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery increases the deintercalation-intercalation rate and improves the reversible capacity and the cycle performance of a secondary battery. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method of Na4Ti5O12 includes a step of coating a titanium dioxide particle with a carbon material; and a step of mixing the titanium dioxide particle with a sodium salt and heat-treating the mixture. The carbon material is selected from graphite, hard carbon, soft carbon, and a combination thereof. A negative electrode active material for a secondary battery includes the Na4Ti5O12 and has a BET surface area of 10-500 m^2/mg.
