Class 80 (4) A pneumatic vibrator comprises a cylinder 13 which is rolled around a fixed shaft 3 by a flow of compressed fluid which enters tangentially through one or more series of apertures 9 in a fixed cylinder 1 and leaves by exhaust apertures 11, the dimensions being arranged so that the roll 13 does not contact the fixed cylinder 1. The apertures 9 in each series are inter-connected by a passage 14 provided along a. generatrix of the cylinder 1, and the cylinder is closed by end plates one of which may be integral with the shaft 3. The frequency of the vibrations may be varied by varying the fluid pressure and their strength may be varied by varying the mass of roll 13 and/or off-centreing the inner surface of the roll with respect to its outer surface so that it is of varying thickness. The outer surface of the roll may be longitudinally grooved and its extremities may be provided with anti-frictional rings. It is stated that the roll may be formed by several pieces of varying densities.</p> |
