The method involves measuring a request signal (100) of an energy storage system based on time, and defining an elementary request signal (108) comprising variable parameters. The elementary request signal is identified (101), where the signal corresponds to a set of elementary signals. Elementary damage value of the system is calculated (102) for each elementary request signal. Cumulated damage value is calculated by realizing a sum of the elementary damage values of the system. A request signal equivalent to the cumulated damage value is determined to simulate ageing of the system.
