The present invention provides a metal-adsorbing gel for use in the removal and recovery of a broad range of heavy metals from water to be treated, including industrial wastewater, water for irrigation, and environmental water, wherein the metal-adsorbing gel adsorbs a large amount of metal and is capable of responding to various demands. The present invention also provides a metal adsorbent wherein a metal-adsorbing gel is supported in a porous carrier. A metal-adsorbing gel that adsorbs a large amount of metal and is capable of responding to various demands is produced by crosslinking a metal-adsorbing polymer selected from polyethylene imine or polyallyl amine using polyglycidyl ether. Furthermore, a metal adsorbent that adsorbs a large amount of metal and is capable of responding to various demands wherein a metal-adsorbing gel is supported in a porous carrier is produced by impregnating a hydrophilic porous carrier with a metal-adsorbing polymer and crosslinking the product using polyglycidyl ether.
