PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control apparatus for an internal combustion engine which can accurately determine an engine rotation phase in an early stage, when initiating startup of the engine, using a sensor with a relatively simple configuration.SOLUTION: In a cam angle sensor 11, a camshaft rotation signal includes: a first angle term binary signal corresponding to a first angle term (T1-T5) at a crank angle of 360° from a reference angle position PREF; and a second angle term binary signal corresponding to a second angle term (T6-T10) at a crank angle of 360° following the first angle term. The second angle term binary signal becomes a signal in which the first angle term binary signal is inverted. On the basis of the value of the camshaft rotation signal when an ignition switch is made to turn on, the camshaft rotation signal after initiating startup of an engine and a crank angle detected by a crank angle sensor, the engine rotation phase is determined within a term at a crank angle of 180° from a startup initiation crank angle when the startup of the engine is initiated. |
