<p>A method of routing in a multi-area communication network is disclosed. The network has border nodes, having a direct link with at least one node in a different area, and terminal nodes, having no direct link with a node in a different area. A summary network view comprises all nodes within the network together with links associated with the nodes. A border node in a network area has a respective link to each of the other nodes within the same network area, each respective link representing the total connectivity between the respective nodes, and has a respective link to one or more nodes in a different network area. A terminal node in a network area has a respective link to each of the border nodes in the same network area, the link representing the potential connectivity between the respective nodes. Inter area routing from a first node to a second node in a different area in a multi-area communication network is carried out using the summary network view. A sequence of nodes from the first node to the second node is determined, in which at a current node the next node in the sequence is determined from a link to that node from the current node, where only links to border nodes or to the second network node are considered in determining the next node.</p> |
