<p>The present invention is an orthodontic wire comprising a plurality of strands of generally non-metallic, elastic material, and methods for manufacturing same. The strands are layered in helical parallel, or braided, co-axially about a core. The core can be hollow, or can comprise an additional strand. Each of the wire strands is selected to form an optimal combination based on material composition and as determined by a goal established for the end-use of the wire during a particular procedure. The wire can be sheathed or unsheathed in a bio-suitable composition; and, can incorporate spectrum selected materials. An optimal wire composition matrix, or chart, can be established based on the conditions under which the wire will be subject.</p> |
