PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-rotation absolute rotary encoder that can be reduced in size and in costs and eliminates the need of a battery.SOLUTION: A multi-rotation absolute rotary encoder comprises: an incremental encoder for outputting a signal by rotation of an output shaft of a motor; and a multi-rotation module constituted of one main driving gear fixed to the output shaft, a plurality of driven gears directly engaged with the main driving gear and sensors for detecting rotation angles of the plurality of driven gears. A number is allocated to each of teeth formed on the driven gears. The multi-rotation absolute rotary encoder is configured so as to calculate tooth-numbers of the plurality of driven gears engaging with the main driving gear from the rotation angles detected by the sensors, to calculate a rotational speed of the output shaft from combination of the calculated tooth-numbers of the plurality of driven gears engaging with the main driving gear and to calculate a rotation angle of the output shaft from the rotation angle of one of the driven gears. By using the signal output from the incremental encoder, the multi-rotation absolute rotary encoder corrects the rotational speed and the rotation angle of the output shaft. |
