<p>The viewing angle of a liquid-crystal panel in a display device is improved and changes in the brightness of a displayed frame as a whole when overshoot is performed are minimized. A processing unit (16) performs both high-tone display, in which a tone higher than the tone in an input image is displayed in one of two adjacent pixels (121), and low-tone display, in which a tone lower than the tone in the input image is displayed in the other of the aforementioned adjacent pixels (121). For each pixel (121), the processing unit (16) switches between high-tone display and low-tone display every frame. When a tone that makes a prescribed level of overshoot difficult is to be displayed in a given pixel (121) in the next displayed frame, a correction unit (24) corrects the tone of a pixel (121) adjacent to said pixel to a tone that allows a level of overshoot higher than the aforementioned prescribed level.</p> |
