PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten authentication time by streamlining authentication processing in an environment where many users use an apparatus.SOLUTION: The authentication system comprises an apparatus having a function for acquiring identification information on a user, and an authentication device for performing user authentication on the basis of the identification of the user. The apparatus includes authentication request means for requesting authentication to the authentication device on the basis of group information for identifying a group to which the user belongs and the identification information acquired from the user. The authentication device includes authentication means for determining whether or not the identification information in the authentication request exists under the group information in the authentication request from the apparatus.
