PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter including a mechanism that can variably control hysteresis of a lock-up damper separately from a lock-up clutch without increasing the number of parts and making a structure complex.SOLUTION: While a lock-up piston 4 is displaced to a position where the piston comes closest to a front cover 3, a contact pressure of a friction member 76 on the front cover 3 reaches its maximum and a contact pressure of a projection region 41a on a spring 174 reaches its minimum, so that hysteresis of a lock-up damper 204 becomes minimal. While the lock-up piston 4 is displaced to a position where the piston comes closest to the lock-up damper 204, the friction member 76 is contactless with the front cover 3 and the contact pressure of the projection region 41a on the spring 174 reaches its maximum, so that the hysteresis of the lock-up damper 204 becomes maximal. |
