The pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, in particular amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, contains non-replicating nanoparticles which comprise the human angiogenin gene and the human vascular endothelial growth factor gene cloned in two expression cassettes in the same non-replicating nanoparticle derived from the genome of serotype 5 human adenovirus, wherein the composition additionally contains a formation buffer. The method for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis involves administering to the patient a therapeutically effective dose of a pharmaceutical composition containing non-replicating nanoparticles which comprise the human angiogenin gene and the human vascular endothelial growth factor gene cloned in two expression cassettes in the same non-replicating nanoparticle derived from the genome of serotype 5 human adenovirus, wherein the composition additionally contains a formation buffer.
