The present invention provides a conveyance device and a conveyance method that can improve productivity and do not require equipment to be stopped even when replacing supply rolls. The conveyance device is provided with a movement part that makes the conveyance path expandable by conveyably holding a battery material that is fed from a supply roll onto which was rolled the battery material which is band-shaped and is a material for an electrode or a separator, and also by changing the own position of the movement part; and a first fixing means that is disposed more upstream in the conveyance direction of the battery material than the movement part and that can fix the battery material. The movement part, in a state where the battery material is fixed by the first fixing means, changes position so that the conveyance path is shortened. The conveyance method conveys the battery material while the battery material is fed from the supply roll onto which the battery material is wound. In the conveyance method, when replacing the supply roll, the battery material is fixed by the first fixing means disposed on the conveyance path, the conveyance path is contracted by changing the position of a movement part for conveyably holding the battery material more downstream in the conveyance direction of the battery material than the first fixing means, and as a result, the battery material positioned by the movement part is supplied downstream and the supply roller is replaced.
