Class 20(iv) [Also in Group XXV] A fastener for securing an interior trim panel 18, Fig. 2, to a body panel 14 of a motor vehicle comprises a channel-likestud member 23 adapted to snap into a channel-like socket member 21 formed on the panel 14. The stud and socket members 23, 21 have reduced channel mouths and are formed of resilient sheet steel so that when interengaged they releasably retain the trim panel in position. The stud member may be rendered more springy by forming slots from each end of the channel mouth portions parallel to the channel. The stud member is formed with a base 25 having prongs 26 to be passed through the panel 18 and turned outwardly. In another form, where the body panel 29, Fig. 4, is formed with a series of slot-like apertures, a socket member 31 located in each aperture 30 comprises a channel-like body the walls of which are split at 37, Fig. 5, to provide mouth portions 33 which are outwardly turned to engage the inside face of the panel, but being free to spread apart as the stud member is inserted and locating lugs 36 are outwardly turned and secured, e.g. by spot welding to the panel. The stud is similar to that described above but is formed with sloping cam faces 45 for readier insertion. The stud may be provided by a curled extension projecting from one end of an attachment plate having prongs at the corners. |
