PURPOSE: A display device and a display device driving method are provided to convert red-green-blue (RGB) stripe type image data into pentile type image data, thereby improving image quality. CONSTITUTION: An encoder (10) encodes first image data and N-1th second image data at different rates. A memory (20) stores encoded Nth first image data and second image data. A decoder (30) decodes the Nth first image data and N-1th second image data received from the memory. An image processor (40) performs color processing for the decoded Nth first image data. An image converting unit (50) converts the Nth first image data, received from the image processor, into N-1th second image data. An image quality improving unit (60) improves the image quality of Nth second image data on the basis of the decoded N-1th second image data. A display panel (70) displays an image by using the image data transmitted from the image quality improving unit.
